A great opportunity for a highly motivated self-starter, the Communications Intern is a paid, full-time summer position responsible for outreach to waitlisted families who live in the Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and DFW metro areas. No previous communications or call center experience necessary, just a desire to work hard and learn! Interns must be currently enrolled in a baccalaureate program.

Person-to-Person General & Open Seat Calling Campaign

  • Calls charter school waitlisted parents.
  • Works with intern communications team to reach calling campaign goals, recognize team support opportunities and appropriate solutions.

Data Entry for Internal and External Marketing Use

  • Enters family information in Families Empowered’s database after each call.

  • Currently enrolled in an institution of higher education.
  • An alumnus of one of the following school networks: Austin Achieve Public Schools; Carpe Diem Innovative School - Westwood (San Antonio); Great Hearts Texas; Harmony Public Schools - Austin, Houston, or San Antonio; IDEA Public Schools - Austin or San Antonio; KIPP Austin, DFW, Houston, or San Antonio Public Schools; Wayside Schools; YES Prep Public Schools
  • Extremely organized, detail-oriented.
  • Ability to communicate with parents in Spanish (verbally and in writing).
  • Highly relational: strong communication skills with a focus on speaking to diverse audiences.
  • Some degree of fluency in school choice issues and a desire to support low and middle-income families on charter school waitlists; experience attending or working at a charter school setting.
  • Minimum competence in computer software, such as Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) preferred.

Work is primarily performed in an office environment in Houston, TX.
Full time (40 hours a week) paid opportunity.
